Businesswoman and community leader Amara Andrews will be throwing her name in the field of candidates running for Cedar Rapids Mayor in November.
Andrews currently works for Cedar Rapids-based insurance company TrueNorth, where she is head of business development and communications for the transportation division.
She will make her official announcement at an outdoor event at NewBo City Market on Thursday, March 25.
If elected, Andrews would become the first African American mayor in Cedar Rapids.
Andrews is originally from California and has worked and lived in Cedar Rapids for almost 10 years. She graduated from UC-Berkely and receive a law degree from the UCLA School of Law.
Andrews has served on the board for several community organizations and is currently the vice president of the board for the Advocates for Social Justice.
